Rebecca Kaplan has extensive experience in the field of education, particularly in STEM subjects. Rebecca began their career as a Science Teacher and Team Leader at Darien Public Schools, where they led a team of nine teachers and implemented Individualized Education Plans for special-education students. Kaplan later worked as a Teacher Trainer for Cooperative Educational Services, focusing on integrating instructional technology into science education.
In 2010, Kaplan became the Science Department Head and STEM Coordinator at Fraser Woods Montessori School. Rebecca played a key role in redesigning the science curriculum and creating the 8th grade Capstone Project, emphasizing research, communication, writing, and public speaking skills.
Kaplan also worked at TED Conferences as a TED Educator, providing consultation and guidance to the TED-Ed team. Rebecca was selected as one of five teachers for the inaugural Teacher Advisor Program and collaborated with educators from across the country to inspire and contribute to TED-Ed's development.
Additionally, Kaplan served as a Science, Technology, and Engineering Teacher at Weston Public Schools and as the VEX Robotics Head Coach and REC Foundation Event Partner. Rebecca worked closely with the engineering department to design and implement a three-year Engineering and Design course.
Throughout their career, Kaplan has demonstrated a passion for STEM education and has been recognized for their achievements, including Science Olympiad Team Honors and grant-funded programs at the Discovery Museum.
Rebecca Kaplan holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Neurobiology from the University of Connecticut. Rebecca also pursued minors in Chemistry and French Literature during their undergraduate studies. Following their Bachelor's degree, they obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Secondary Education and Teaching from Sacred Heart University. Additionally, Rebecca has earned several certifications, including Biology (030), Chemistry (031), and Technology Education (047), all of which are recognized by the Connecticut State Department of Education. Rebecca is also a certified VEX Robotics V5 Educator, certified by Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy.
