Tesfu Hailemariam has a diverse work experience in the engineering and transportation fields. Tesfu began their career as a Civil Engineering Intern at Carter and Burgess Consultants in 2006, where they provided CADD services for roadway and storm drainage design projects. Tesfu then worked as a Cost Engineer at Jacobs from 2006 to 2010. Hailemariam later joined Yellow Checker Star Transportation as a Supervisor from 2011 to 2015, where they collaborated with employees and resolved worker problems. In 2015, they became a Civil Designer at Advantage Civil Design Group, LLP, where they worked on designing civil infrastructure projects. Tesfu then transitioned to Slater Hanifan Group in 2018, working as a Designer until 2021. Currently, they hold the position of Graduate Engineer at Westwood Professional Services.

Tesfu Hailemariam attended San Diego State University from 1994 to 2000, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering. Tesfu then continued their education at Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2001 to 2004, where they obtained another Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering Technology/Technician.
