Managing Partner at Whitecap Venture Partners

Carey co-founded Whitecap in the early 1990’s originally as the venture capital division of Whitecastle Investments Limited, a family office, and led the transition to managing $225M in Whitecap’s current two funds, Whitecap III and IV. He focuses on investments in IT, healthcare and food-related technology. In Whitecap III’s current portfolio, Carey works closely with Bold Commerce and Reunion Foods. He also supported Real Matters prior to the company’s IPO. Carey has worked extensively with Whitecap’s companies including Broadband Networks (acquired by Nortel), PCDocs Group (acquired by Hummingbird/OpenText), Protenergy Natural Foods (acquired by Treehouse Foods), ImagicTV (acquired by Alcatel), Loran International (acquired by Peregrine), and Clearwater Clinical (acquired by Sivantos).

He has been actively involved in public healthcare, volunteering on the operating boards of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care for a cumulative two decades, ultimately becoming the Vice Chair of both organizations. He currently serves on the Sunnybrook Foundation Board and Baycrest’s Finance and Audit Committee.

Carey has worked with numerous Whitecap companies over the past 25 years, assisting with strategic planning, hiring of senior execs, business development, and financings (both public and private), but most importantly being a mentor and sounding board to the senior leadership of Whitecap’s investee companies.

Carey holds a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and a BA (Economics) from the University of Western Ontario.
