Nela Petkovic has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Nela started their career at Electrohome Limited in 1995 as a Systems Analyst/Database Developer. Later, in 1995, they joined Wilfrid Laurier University, where they held various positions including Senior Systems Analyst, Systems Analyst III, Manager of Enterprise Solutions, Director of ICT Renewal Project, Director of ICT Projects and Process Management, and ultimately Chief Information Officer, a position they have held since December 2014.

Nela Petkovic has a diverse education history. Nela obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Electronic Engineering from the Military Technical University in Zagreb, Croatia. Nela also completed a Project Leadership Program at the University of Waterloo in 2009 and an Advance Executive Certificate in General Management at Queen's University in 2013. In 2019, Nela enrolled in the Harvard Graduate School of Education, specializing in Women in Education Leadership. Currently, they are pursuing a field of study titled "Bravely Confronting Racism in Higher Education" at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Additionally, Nela has obtained several certifications including Artificial Intelligence Ethics Certificate (2023), Yellow Belt (2015), ITIL® (2011), and Project Management Professional (PMP)® (2009).
