Ian Verhappen has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of industrial automation and networking. Starting in 2020, they held the role of Senior Solutions Architect at Willowglen Systems. Prior to that, they served as the Chairperson SC65C at the International Electrotechnical Commission starting in 2019. From 2009 to 2020, Ian worked at Industrial Automation Networks Inc. as the Director, where they specialized in industrial networking and automation projects. Ian also worked as a Senior Project Manager at CIMA+ from 2016 to 2020. Before that, they were the Engineering Manager at Orbis Engineering Field Services from 2013 to 2016. Ian has also held various roles at organizations such as SAIT, Fieldbus Foundation, MTL Inc., and ICE-Pros Inc., where they contributed to the fields of networking, training, project management, and product solutions. Alongside their professional roles, Ian volunteered at the International Society of Automation since 1988.
Ian Verhappen's education history begins with their high school education at Sir John Franklin, where they earned their matriculation degree from 1973 to 1976. Following this, they attended the University of Alberta from 1976 to 1979, where they obtained their first Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. Ian then continued their education at the same university, earning their second Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from 1979 to 1982.
In addition to their formal education, Ian Verhappen also obtained additional certifications. In 2006, they became a Foundation Fieldbus Specialist through the Fieldbus Foundation. Ian also earned the Certified Automation Professional (CAP) certification from ISA in April 2006.
