Naotaka Sato has a long and varied career in the telecommunications industry. Naotaka began in 1993 as an Engineer at Sony, where they conducted research for IS-95 based CDMA cellular systems and developed high frequency active/passive devices. In 1995, they moved to Sony Electronics as an RF Engineer, where they developed the first US PCS CDMA phone and designed and developed RF system architecture for CDMA phones. In 1999, they returned to Sony as an RF Engineer. In 2001, they moved to Sony Ericsson as a Sr. RF Engineer, where they designed RF system architecture for 3G phones and developed RF ASICs for WCDMA phones. In 2005, they returned to Sony as a Project Lead for Dynamic Spectrum Access System Development, Wireless Communication Standardization Manager, Sr. Researcher, Head of 3GPP RAN1 delegation, and Sr. RF System Engineer. In 2015, they joined IEEE as IEEE 802.19 Task Group 1a & Revision Chairman. In 2019, they joined the Wireless Innovation Forum as Vice President and Vice Chair of the Forum, Secretary Board Of Directors, and Board Member.
Naotaka Sato attended Tokyo University of Science from 1987 to 1993, graduating with a B.E/M.E in Electrical Engineering.
