Zach Baumgart has extensive work experience in research and policy within the criminal justice field. Zach has served as the Director of Research & Policy at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections since 2016, where they lead research efforts, consults with staff and leadership, and collaborates with external research partners. Prior to this role, they were a Research Analyst Supervisor at the same department, where they supervised a team and provided expert consultation on policies and programs. Zach also has experience as a Research Analyst. In addition to their work in corrections, Zach Baumgart has worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Lecturer and Teaching Assistant, and at Kaplan as an Instructor.
Zach Baumgart holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which they completed from 2008 to 2016. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Sociology from the same university from 2008 to 2011. Zach also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Psychology, both obtained from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from 2003 to 2007.
