Dario C. Altieri

Dario C. Altieri, M.D., Ph.D. is the President and CEO of The Wistar Institute in Philadelphia. Dario also holds the position of Eleanor Eustis Farrington Professor at Wistar. Dr. Altieri came to Wistar from UMass Chan Medical School where they served as Founding Chair of the Department of Cancer Biology from August 2002-August 2010. Prior to that, they were a Professor with tenure in the Department of Pathology at Yale University School of Medicine and the Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine from July 1994-August 2002. Dr. Altieri’s research career began at Scripps Research where they were an Assistant Member in the Department of Immunology from January 1987-June 1994.

Dr. Altieri has been the recipient of many awards and honors throughout their career. In 2017, they were inducted into the National Academy of Medicine and in 2019, they were awarded the AACR-Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation (AACR-CRPF) Lifetime Achievement Award in Cancer Prevention.

Dario C. Altieri began their educational career by obtaining a specialty degree in Clinical and Experimental Hematology from Università degli Studi di Milano. Dario continued their studies at Università degli Studi di Milano, obtaining a Doctor of Medicine - MD. Finally, they obtained a Master's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies from Yale University.
