The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI)
The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute is one of the largest research institutes of the University of the Witwatersrand. Our strength lies in our multidisciplinary and holistic approach. We identify health problems through sound epidemiological methods and qualitative research, use a range of analytic and research methods to generate evidence, then test and evaluate interventions in a real-world setting. We furthermore provide technical assistance, advocacy and capacity building to ensure effective implementation and, finally, translate evidence into policy. Our portfolio spans the following focus areas: • HIV - Care and Treatment Implementation - Prevention • Sexual and Reproductive Health • Vaccine Preventable Diseases. Much of our work is with populations that are most in need, marginalised, or hard-to-reach: • Women; • Pregnant women and mother and infant pairs; • Adolescents (including young men, and young women and girls); • Adults and children and those with TB; and • Key populations (in particular female sex workers, and men who have sex with men (MSM)
