Nisha Onta is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in gender and development advocacy. As the Founder and Executive Director of Governance Lab since January 2019, Nisha leads initiatives focused on governance and social change. In the role of Regional Coordinator for Asia at Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (WOCAN) since May 2012, Nisha represents the organization and works to strengthen partnerships across South and Southeast Asia. Nisha also serves as a Summer Research Fellowship Mentor at Daayitwa, guiding research on gender equality and women's economic empowerment, and has contributed as a guest lecturer at Chulalongkorn University from September 2014 to September 2021. Nisha's academic background includes a PhD and Master’s Degree in Gender and Development Studies from the Asian Institute of Technology, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bethel College.

WOCAN is a women-led global network of professional women and men engaged in agriculture and natural resource management who are committed to organizational change for gender equality and environmentally sustainable development. WOCAN’s invests in building capacities and forums for women’s organizations which has enabled women farmers and professionals to obtain new resources to improve their livelihoods and well-beingWOCAN has trained and mentored women farmers and professionals - as well as the men who support them - to accelerate transformational change within communities and institutions. WOCAN developed the award-winning W+ Standard (www.wplus.org) to measure, quantify and monetize results of women's empowerment initiatives at the community or project level as a results-based finance approach.
