Women's Brain Foundation
Women’s Brain Foundation (WBF) is an international non-profit organization studying sex and gender determinants to brain and mental health. Founded in 2017, the WBF is composed by a group of scientists hailing from various disciplines including medicine, neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, and communication who work together with caregivers, patients and their relatives, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Born as an Association (Women's Brain Project) we are now a Foundation since March 2024. Our goal is to transform the state of medical treatments and drug development through sex and gender factors as a gateway to precision medicine and care. Health begins with human beings, individuals. Men and women are different when it comes to brain and mental disease frequency, severity, symptomatology and even response to treatments. Through our work, we learned that the scientific world and civil society have not sufficiently acknowledged this issue and are instead still operating under the assumption that a one-size-fits-all approach benefits all. WBF advocates for a paradigm shift in global health towards sustainability by considering the specific biological, psychosocial and economic requirements of each patient, regardless of sex or gender.
