Paul Matthias

Paul Matthias serves as the Senior Program Manager and Chief Engineer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, overseeing the Ocean Observatories Initiative and managing projects such as the Acoustic Telescope and NASA's EVS-3 Project. Prior experience includes a role as Senior Manager of Systems Engineering at Raytheon, where responsibilities included serving as Change Engineer on the UK Border Security Program and Technical Director for components of the Zumwalt Navy Destroyer. Paul also founded Polaris Imaging, Inc., focusing on systems and software engineering, particularly in ocean exploration and shipwreck surveys. Earlier positions include Director of the Ocean Mapping Center at the University of Rhode Island and Sr. Geophysicist at Triton Imaging, contributing to the development of acoustic imaging systems. Paul holds an MBA from the University of Rhode Island, as well as an MS in Geophysics and Oceanography from Texas A&M University and a B.S. in Marine Science and Geology from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
