When I kept nodding off at the flow cytometer, I realised that a life in the lab wasn’t for me. Luckily my PhD supervisor praised my natural writing style, and I realised I had a coveted skill that didn’t come easily to a lot of people. I learnt about med comms through a postgrad careers event and the choice was easy. When I finished my PhD in 2013, I packed my bags, crossed the River Severn and started a new life in London as a junior medical writer.

Since then I’ve accrued nearly 7 years’ experience in medical education and advertising, working across a range of therapy areas from narcolepsy to erectile dysfunction. I’ve been a part of a dizzying number of projects, from symposia slides to disease awareness campaigns. My work has taken me to ad boards in Bologna, photoshoots in Peckham and even lunchtime meetings in Luton. There’s never been a dull moment!

The thing I love most about my job is being able to take a complicated/convoluted message and turn it into something that resonates with the reader. This is especially important in pharma, as the right messaging can truly effect meaningful change. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than helping our clients achieve this.
