Karen Fifield MNZM MInstD currently serves as President and previously as Vice President of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) since October 2021. Additionally, Karen holds the position of Trustee at the Auckland Zoo Charitable Trust and has been the Chief Executive at Wellington Zoo Te Nukuao since September 2006. Karen is also an active Board Member of the Tapui Aotearoa Governance Group and an Elected Member of the WAZA Council. Previously, Karen contributed to the WAZA Conservation and Sustainability Committee and served as Chair of the WAZA Animal Welfare and Professional Ethics Committee. Karen’s past board memberships include organizations such as Wild Welfare and the Newtown Festival Trust. Academically, Karen holds a Bachelor of Education in Social Sciences from UNSW and has completed an Executive Leadership program focused on Strategic Leadership at Stanford University.
