Jen Vanek

Jen Vanek, PhD has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of digital learning and research. Jen is currently the Director of Digital Learning and Research at World Education, where they oversee the implementation of digital learning initiatives. Prior to this role, they served as the Senior Editor at MinneTESOL Journal, where they formatted and published manuscripts for the online journal and collaborated with the editorial board on strategic planning.

Jen also worked as a consultant at the Minnesota Literacy Council, where they contributed to the development of the Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment, an online assessment for adult learners to measure their digital literacy skills. Jen also developed and managed content for the Digital Literacy Online Curriculum for Learner Web, supporting adults in achieving digital literacy skills for career exploration.

In addition, Jen has taught as an Instructor at the University of Minnesota, focusing on second languages education and learning technologies. Jen has also served as a consultant for the Minnesota Department of Education, facilitating professional development on distance learning for ABE teachers and administrators, and conducting research on effective online instruction.

Jen's work experience also includes roles at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, Center for Victims of Torture, St. Paul Public Schools, and St. Paul Community Literacy Consortium, where they have contributed to various educational and literacy initiatives. Throughout their career, Jen has demonstrated expertise in digital learning, curriculum development, and research in the field of education.

Jen Vanek, PhD completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Iowa State University in the years 1987 to 1991. Following this, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Applied Linguistics, TESOL from the University of Illinois Chicago between 1995 and 1996. Later, they achieved their highest level of education, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education/Applied Linguistics from the University of Minnesota from 2012 to 2017.

In addition to their formal education, Jen Vanek also obtained a certification in State of Minnesota Adult Basic Education Licensure in July 2008.
