Prof. Dr. Mult. Thomas Paul Schirrmacher

Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul Schirrmacher has a diverse and extensive work experience. Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul is currently serving as the Secretary General & CEO of the World Evangelical Alliance since 2021. Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul previously held the role of Associate Secretary General and Chair of the Theological Commission at the same organization. Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul has also been the Ambassador for Human Rights since 2005.

Additionally, Prof. Schirrmacher is the President of the Internationales Institut für Religionsfreiheit (IIRF) since 2021 and previously served as its Director from 2007. Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul is also the President of the International Society of Human Rights since 2013.

Academically, they are a Professor in the Advanced Program "Human Rights and Religious Freedom" at Regent's Park College since 2017. Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul holds the position of Extraordinary Professor of the Sociology of Religion at Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara since 2010.

Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul Schirrmacher's education history includes multiple degrees and a wide range of fields of study. Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul obtained their Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from California Miramar University in 1990, and prior to that, they studied Comparative Religions, Cultural Anthropology, European Ethnology, and Sociology at The University of Bonn from 1983 to 1989. Prof. Dr. mult. Thomas Paul also pursued a Ph.D. in Ecumenical Theology at Theologische Universiteit Utrecht, earning the degree of Dr. theol. (Ph.D.) in 1985. Prof. Dr. mult. Schirrmacher further expanded their education with a Th.D. in Ethics from Whitefield Theological Seminary in 1996. In 1997, they obtained a D.D. in Theology from Cranmer Theological House, and in 2007, they received a D.D. in International Development from Bangalore University. Later, they completed their education with a Dr. phil. (Ph.D.) in Religionssoziologie from The University of Bonn in 2007.
