Head, WHO Athens Quality Of Care And Patient Safety Office & Special Representative For Greece at World Health Organization

Joao Breda is currently the Head of the WHO Athens Quality of Care and Patient Safety Office and the Special Representative for Greece at the World Health Organization, a position held since February 2010. Additionally, Joao serves as the Head of the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases, which was established in 2014 to address NCDs in the WHO European Region. With a strong background in nutrition and public health, previous roles include Coordinator of the National Platform Against Obesity at the General Health Directorate in Portugal, Programme Manager for Nutrition, Physical Activity & Obesity, and various academic positions, including Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at multiple institutions. Joao holds advanced degrees, including a PhD in Alcohol Related Problems from Universidade do Porto and an MBA in International Management from EU Business School, alongside certifications in leadership from INSEAD and UNSSC.
