Vinayak Prasad has extensive experience in public health and management, currently serving as a Senior Adviser at the World Health Organization since December 2009, where strategic advice and management support are provided for the African tobacco control program. Prasad previously held the position of Programme Manager for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded WHO Africa project, focusing on tobacco control advancements and engaging with governments for policy changes. From December 2004 to November 2009, Prasad served as Director for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India, overseeing the PMSSY project aimed at establishing new teaching hospitals and upgrading medical schools. Earlier career experience includes work with the Ministry of Finance/Customs & Excise in the Government of India from 1995 to 2002. Academic qualifications include an MBA in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham and an MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College.
