Aleksandar Backovic has extensive work experience in the field of regulatory affairs and research. Aleksandar is currently the Head of Global Regulatory Affairs - CMC at Wörwag Pharma GmbH & Co. KG since June 2020. Prior to this role, they served as a Panel Vice-chair, Reviewer, Monitor, and Rapporteur at the European Commission starting from October 2010. Aleksandar also worked as the Regulatory Affairs Lead for Austria and CEE at Mundipharma from June 2017 to August 2019. Before that, they held various roles at Pfizer, including Regional CMC Strategist - Team Lead Europe and CMC Conformance Manager for Central and Eastern Europe. Aleksandar has also worked as an Independent Expert for Project Evaluation at The National Centre for Research and Development. Aleksandar started their career as a Research Scientist at Baxter International Inc. and later worked as a Lab Chief and a PhD student at Medizinische Universitaet Innsbruck. Aleksandar began their professional journey as a Research Associate at the Military Medical Academy.
Aleksandar Backovic obtained a Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Physiology from the University of Belgrade, where they studied from 1995 to 2001. Later, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Immunology at the Medizinische Universität Innsbruck, completing their studies from 2003 to 2006.
