Dr. Frank Cammisa, Jr. joins the Board of Managers as a spine specialist. The current Chief of Spinal Surgical Service at Hospital for Special Surgery (“HSS”) and Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Dr. Cammisa specializes in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive surgery, athletic spinal injuries, motion preserving procedures, and deformity. Dr. Cammisa initiated the formation of the Spine Care Institute and the Integrated Spine Research Program at HSS and currently serves on many committees including Planning, Capital Campaign, and the GFT Executive Committee. Dr. Cammisa is a notably published surgeon and the recipient of many honors and awards including the North American Traveling Fellowship, Bischoff Teaching Award, NASS Outstanding Paper Award for Surgical Science, and the EOA Founder’s Award. Dr. Cammisa has also been recognized by New York Magazine as one of “12 Doctors Who are Reinventing Medicine.” He is on the Medical Staff of the New York Giants and the National Hockey League Players Association.
Dr. Cammisa graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Tufts University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He completed his residency at Hospital for Special Surgery and his fellowship training in spinal surgery in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurological Surgery at University of Miami and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
