Frans van Andel has a strong education history in the field of economics and public health. Frans obtained a PhD in Health economics from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, between 1985 and 1988. Prior to that, they pursued a Master of Public Health degree at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health from 1980 to 1981, specializing in the field of Public Health. Frans also holds a Master of Science degree in Law and Economics from the University of Groningen, which they completed from 1975 to 1981.
