Rafael Lizarralde

Senior Software Engineer at X, the moonshot factory

Rafael Lizarralde has a diverse work experience. Rafael is currently working as a Software Engineer at X, the moonshot factory since July 2022. Previously, they worked at Google as a Software Engineer in the Site Reliability Engineering department from September 2018 to July 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Evernote as a Software Engineer from November 2017 to August 2018.

Rafael also has academic research experience. Rafael worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst from February 2016 to May 2017. During this time, they focused on intelligent tutoring systems, specifically working on the Mathspring system for teaching math to middle and high school students. Before that, they served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the same university from September 2015 to December 2015.

Additionally, Rafael was a part of the Cornell iGEM team from January 2012 to October 2013. As a member, they participated in the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition and worked on engineering a strain of Shewanella oneidensis. Rafael was also responsible for designing and constructing a functional prototype device.

Furthermore, Rafael gained research experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Cornell University from July 2011 to October 2013. Rafael worked in a wet lab environment, focusing on targeted mutagenesis of specific DNA sequences on a plasmid using viral nickases.

Prior to their academic pursuits, Rafael provided technical support as a part of the Çatalhöyük Research Project in July 2010. Their responsibilities included providing general technical support for a group of researchers at the archaeological site.

Their earliest work experience was as a Programming Intern at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research from June 2009 to August 2009.

Rafael Lizarralde has pursued various educational endeavors. In 2009, they attended Stony Brook University, although no specific degree or field of study is mentioned. From 2010 to 2013, Rafael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological/Biosystems Engineering from Cornell University. Later, from 2015 to 2017, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 2022, Rafael participated in a program at Terra.do focused on Climate Change: Learning for Action.
