Computational Biologist at X, the moonshot factory

Wai Kit Ong is a computational biologist who has gained extensive experience in the field through various roles. Starting in 2008, Wai Kit worked as a Tutor and Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Academic Resource Center, Illinois Institute of Technology. In 2010, they joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UW-Madison as a Graduate Research Assistant and later took on the role of Graduate Teaching Assistant. In 2015, Wai Kit worked as a Graduate Intern at Cell Systems Informatics, Intrexon Corporation. Their most recent position, which began in 2016, was at SRI International as an Advanced Computational Biologist within the Bioinformatics Research Group. At SRI International, Wai Kit was responsible for various tasks, including improving and maintaining the EcoCyc Escherichia coli metabolic model and developing a comparison tool to track model prediction accuracy. They also contributed to business development activities. Wai Kit's current role is as a Computational Biologist at X, the moonshot factory, where they have been employed since 2021.

Wai Kit Ong pursued their education in the field of Chemical Engineering. From 2007 to 2010, they attended Illinois Institute of Technology, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Later, they joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering from 2010 to 2016.
