Joel Fried

Joel Fried has extensive experience in software engineering, analytics and machine learning, user experience design, and IT consulting. Joel began their career in 2001 as a Computer Consultant at Brandeis University, providing technical support for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. From 2005 to 2007, they were a Teaching Assistant at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where they created gradebook software with PHP and MySQL. In 2007, they became a User Services Specialist at Bard College at Simon's Rock. From 2008 to 2014, they were the Managing Member & CTO of Conjectural Technologies, LLC, where they were responsible for all technology-related decisions and acted as the head User Experience Designer. From 2016 to 2017, they were a Software Engineer at new|ed, where they created an automated Insights platform in Ember.js with graphs in D3 to display usage details. From 2017 to 2020, they were the Analytics & Machine Learning Team Lead at Rational Enterprise, where they led a team of up to four developers in designing, developing, and implementing analytics features. Finally, they are currently a Senior Software Engineer at InfluxData.

Joel Fried completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Philosophy and Mathematics from Brandeis University in 2003. Joel then went on to pursue PhD Courswork in Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, which they completed in 2006.
