Michelle Tanem

Michelle Tanem is a board member at YMCA OF THE FOX CITIES and was previously the Director of Global Public Affairs at SC Johnson from January 2016 to December 2017. In their role at SC Johnson, Michelle was responsible for setting the strategy and overseeing all global external communications programs in order to enhance the company's image and reputation. This included directing corporate reputation efforts in key markets, stakeholder engagement, thought leadership, media relations, advertising, and program development, implementation and results. Michelle also created a dashboard to track PR results/trends and implemented increasingly-targeted communiques. As a result of their efforts, they were able to increase the news rate up to 300 percent and secure almost 25M in media and social impressions for a single media event.

Prior to their role at SC Johnson, Michelle was the Director of Communications, North America at Johnson Controls, Inc. from January 1995 to December 2016. In this role, they were responsible for leading all aspects of communications for the North American operations of Johnson Controls, a multi-industrial company with businesses that include automotive systems, building efficiency solutions, and battery technologies.

Michelle began their career as a Marketing Coordinator at Advo, Inc. from January 1990 to December 1995. Advo, Inc. was one of the largest direct mail advertising companies in the United States at that time. In their role as Marketing Coordinator, Michelle was responsible for developing marketing campaigns and materials as well as coordinating market research projects.

Michelle Tanem earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a focus in marketing and a minor in French.
