Philip Newton is an experienced professional in community engagement and heritage management, currently serving as Community Participation Manager at York Museums Trust since March 2014. In this role, Philip has also held positions as Communities Engagement Researcher and Volunteers Coordinator, along with serving as Assistant Curator of History. In addition to this, Philip has been the Chair of Governors at Ralph Butterfield Primary School since September 2020. Previously, Philip worked as Curator at The Thackray Medical Museum for a brief period in 2017, as a Conservation Assistant at the National Trust from July 2011 to March 2014, and as Historic Environment Assistant with Northumberland National Park Authority in 2010. Philip holds a Master of Arts in Heritage Management from Newcastle University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Northumbria University.

Supported by the Council, York Museums Trust is responsible for York Art Gallery, York Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum and Gardens and York St Mary’s.
