Michael Simson has a diverse work experience in the field of psychiatry. Michael started their career as a Consulting Psychiatrist at Walden Behavioral Care in 2003. From 2004 to 2007, they served as a Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Ingraham, Inc., where they oversaw a crisis stabilization unit and worked in an outpatient clinic. In 2004, they also started a private practice in psychiatry, where they focused on general outpatient psychiatric care and management of patients with personality disorders.
In 2007, Simson became the Medical Director of the ACTION Program at Spring Harbor Hospital, where they were responsible for overseeing a team focusing on those with recurrent psychiatric admissions. Michael utilized a DBT-informed model and worked with patients suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder and other personality disorders. Simson held this role until 2012.
From 2012 to 2015, Simson worked as a Psychiatrist at Rochester Mental Health Center and Rochester General Hospital. In 2014, they joined the PROS Program at DePaul Community Services as a Consulting Psychiatrist, providing psychiatric treatment to patients and collaborating with the program director. Michael also continued to provide consultation on the Special Review Committee and conducted educational trainings for staff after the PROS Program closed.
In 2014, Simson started another private practice in psychiatry, where they primarily focused on medication management and brief therapy. Michael also offered full-length ongoing therapy to a subset of patients.
In 2017, Simson took on the role of Behavioral Health Medical Director at both Monroe Plan for Medical Care and YourCare Health Plan.
Michael Simson received their MD from Harvard Medical School, where they studied from 1995 to 2000. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Biochemistry at Harvard University from 1991 to 1995. In addition to their formal education, Michael holds certifications in Dialectical Behavior Therapy from Behavioral Tech, LLC and is board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc.
