James is the Chief Security Officer at the Bank of Canada. The nature and scope of his responsibilities include strategically leading Corporate Security Services and ensuring the mitigation of security risks to the Bank and protecting its workforce. He also oversees the continuity of operations focused on supporting the resilience of the organization. This includes playing a key role in developing an Enterprise Security Risk Management approach and ensuring the appropriate oversight of the second line of defense required to defend against cyber-attacks and other key security risks.
James’ former responsibilities as an Assistant Commissioner with the RCMP Federal Policing Operations included oversight of national security, terrorism, serious and organized crime, as well as corruption, financial crime, and cyber-crime investigations as well as Protective Policing, Major Events Security, and Aviation Security. Throughout his career, James has worked in a variety of roles nationally and internationally. He holds his Master of Leadership and Management in Policing and continues his involvement in the program as a Senior Fellow.
In recognition of his many contributions to the policing profession and service to the community, James is the recipient of several awards including Officer of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces as well as the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals.
