Zhen Chen

Zhen (Andrew) Chen is a Senior Software Engineer at YouTube since August 2021, focusing on the Discovery and Core Infrastructure of YouTube Shorts. Previously, Zhen served as a Research Assistant at the University of California, Irvine, where algorithm design was undertaken to enhance the security, efficiency, robustness, and privacy of various computational methods, including machine learning and deep learning. Zhen's experience includes a role as a Software Engineer at Google Research, contributing to improvements in OSS Mediapipe by implementing features for active speaker detection and text detection. A stint as a Data Scientist at Glassdoor involved analyzing employee reviews using machine learning techniques. Zhen holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from UC Irvine, along with bachelor's and master's degrees in the same field from Beihang University, and participated in exchange programs at DTU - Technical University of Denmark and National Chiao Tung University.
