The Design Engineering team at ZELP collaborates with multiple departments, including Software, Hardware, Animal Science and Machine Learning, to develop innovative solutions. This team focuses on designing, optimizing and manufacturing our ground-breaking devices in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Job Details
As a Design Engineer within Zelp you will collaborate with and report to a Team Lead while contributing to exciting project work. This role is designed to help you gain relevant experience and prepare for potential growth into a Senior role, with mentorship and guidance along the way.
The responsibilities include:
Creating, supporting and collaborating on design and drawing activities, as required by the team, ensuring timely progress.
Hands-on prototyping and building of test devices.
Producing and maintaining thorough and accurate design project documentation.
Preparing, testing, and monitoring the progress of trials to support the delivery of academically rigorous research papers demonstrating the function of the device(s).
Implementing design changes that are evaluated for feasibility, cost, and timing and implemented with care and thoroughness.
Transferring designs from R&D level prototypes to manufacturable products at both a batch and mass production level.
Supporting other departments with problem-solving and other project activities.
Required Experience:
Over 2 years of relevant work experience. This position is best suited for candidates with mid-level experience, ranging up to 8 years.
3D CAD Modelling (Onshape or Solidworks preferred).
Basic 2D drawings.
Typical manufacturing and assembly processes i.e. injection moulding of rigid and flexible plastics, sheet metalwork, die cutting, snaps, plastic welding, fasteners, etc.
Candidate will likely have exposure to:
Maintaining live bill of materials (BOM) and product costing
FMEA
GD&T and tolerance stack analyses
Practical prototyping and 3D printing
Designing and conducting validation testing
Complex electromechanical CAD assemblies
Working in cross-functional teams
Manufacturing and assembly at low volume and/or high volume and production lines
Nice to have experience:
Cradle to grave or cradle to cradle projects
Supplier selection and Contract Manufacturer liaison
Product data management / engineering change control process
Farm / Agriculture experience
A high-level understanding of the complete product development lifecycle
Non-dispersive Infrared Sensors for gas measurement
