Leonardo Chavane has over 20 years of work experience in various industries. Leonardo began their career in 2000 as a Province Medical Chief with the Ministry of Health in Zambezia Province Directorate. In 2005, they became the Provincial Health Director for Niassa Province Mozambique, where they were responsible for leadership and management of the health programs at the provincial level, as well as planing and resources allocation, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of health activities. In 2008, they were appointed as the Deputy National Director for Public Health with the Ministry of Health of Mozambique. From 2012 to 2014, they served as the Country Director - Mozambique, Project Director: Improving Community Access to Quality HIV Services in Boane District, Project Director - MCE - DFATD, Deputy Country Director, and Senior National Adviser - MCHIP for Jhpiego. From 2014 to 2018, they served as the Presidente do Colégio de Saúde Pública for Ordem dos Médicos de Moçambique. From 2018 to 2021, they worked as a Freelance Consultant for MoHealth Services Lda. Currently, they are the Project and Partnership Manager for Zenysis Technologies.
Leonardo Chavane obtained their Licentiate degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine - Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique between 1989 and 1997. Leonardo then went on to pursue a Master in Public Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp in 2003 and 2004. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Health Services/Allied Health/Health Sciences, General from Ghent University in 2018.
