Kristy Bumbak is an experienced Program Operations Manager at zero2hero since February 2017, where the focus is on educating and empowering children and young people to address mental health issues openly. Prior to this role, Kristy served as Camp Program Manager and Camp Coordinator at Edith Cowan University from January 2010 to December 2013, assessing pre-service teachers during their practicum placements. Kristy began their career as an Early Childhood Teacher at Al-Ameen College from January 2008 to November 2009 and as a Classroom Teacher and Curriculum Coordinator at the Australian Islamic College from January 2003 to April 2006. Kristy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication/Cultural Studies and Aboriginal Studies from Murdoch University and a Postgraduate Degree in Education from Edith Cowan University.

Our mission is to provide innovative school-based programs for children and young people that develop their understanding of mental health issues and awareness of mental health services. The zero2hero team envisions a world where mental illness is dealt with openly and treated as a normal part of everyday life. zero2hero is a WA-based not-for-profit organisation with a mission to address mental health problems openly among younger people. zero2hero believe that through open communication, mental health problems can be effectively dealt with and suicide can be prevented. Through specialised events the zero2hero team help create supportive networks that encourage speaking out about mental health. zero2hero’s events such as ‘zero2hero day’ and ‘Camp Hero – Youth Leadership Camps’ equip school-aged children and teenagers with the skills to speak up when they are struggling and the confidence to stand up and support their friends when they may be experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, bullying, self-harm or suicidal thoughts.
