Matt Clay's work experience begins in 2009 as a Group Carer at Kings Camps, where they led coaching sessions, designed specific coaching sessions, and delivered end-of-day speeches. Matt also worked as an Assistant Coach at FA Tesco Skills School during the same time period. In 2010, they gained rapid promotion to Senior Sales at Ted Baker, where they were responsible for the women's department and implemented a sales incentive scheme. From 2013 to 2015, they worked at Benfield Motor Group, first as a Strategic Development Trainee, assisting with strategic projects, and then as an Internal Communication Specialist, where they developed an internal communications strategy and delivered multiple communications channel strategies. From 2016 to 2021, they served as the Group Qualifications Manager at Lookers plc, where they developed and implemented an apprenticeship strategy, managed external training providers, and oversaw the operational management of apprenticeship programs. Currently, they are working at ZeroLight as a Commercial Solutions Executive, responsible for commercial lead across automotive accounts, operational commercial tracking, and production of commercial artifacts.

Matt Clay attended Huntington School in York from 2004 to 2010. Matt then went on to study at Northumbria University from 2012 to 2015, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Business Leadership and Corporate Management.
