Peter Cheng has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of computer vision and software engineering. Peter began their career as a Software Engineering Intern at Arista Networks, Inc. in 2011. Peter then worked as a Researcher and Undergraduate Researcher at UC Berkeley from 2011 to 2013.
From 2010 to 2012, Peter worked at UC Berkeley's Student Affairs IT, first as a Desktop Consultant and later as a Lead Desktop Engineer. In these roles, they managed a team, oversaw the maintenance and security compliance of numerous machines, and deployed software upgrades and patches using various tools.
Peter joined Amazon Lab126 in 2013 as a Software Development Engineer, where they designed and prototyped user interaction concepts for the Fire Phone and developed machine learning models for motion gesture recognition. Peter also implemented metrics and testing procedures for evaluating the accuracy and ease of use of motion gestures and 3D interfaces.
From 2015 to 2020, Peter worked at Matterport as a Staff Computer Vision Engineer. During this time, they trained semantic segmentation models for spherical images, developed image processing pipelines, implemented algorithms for surface reconstruction, and created processes for evaluating and calibrating camera sensors and lenses.
Most recently, Peter worked at Iron Ox as a Staff Computer Vision Engineer from 2020 to 2023. In this role, they built multi-camera imaging stations, used plant scans and environmental sensors to predict plant growth, and improved pest management procedures through automated detection of pests and diseases.
Peter's work experience demonstrates their expertise in computer vision, software engineering, and project management, making him a valuable asset in the field.
Peter Cheng attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2009 to 2012, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In 2012, they also briefly attended the Haas School of Business for the Management of Technology Program. Later in 2012, they returned to the University of California, Berkeley and completed a Master of Science degree in Computer Science in 2013.
