Carl-Johan Hoel is a Senior Software Engineer at Zoox since May 2022, focusing on the development of algorithms for planning and control in autonomous vehicles. Previously, Carl-Johan was a PhD student at Chalmers University of Technology from May 2016 to December 2021, researching decision-making in autonomous driving through reinforcement learning, culminating in a doctoral thesis. An experience as a Visiting Researcher at Stanford University's Intelligent Systems Laboratory occurred from March 2018 to August 2018 under the guidance of Prof. Mykel Kochenderfer. Prior to these roles, Carl-Johan worked as a Control Systems Engineer at Volvo Group from September 2011 to May 2016, leading various research and early development projects in control systems engineering, including projects on autonomous driving and vehicle state estimation. Educational credentials include a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, a Master of Science in the same field, and a Bachelor of Science in Physics, all from Chalmers University of Technology.
