Consumer goods delivery platform Gopuff has revealed that operations and supply chain veteran Sanjay Shah has joined the Philadelphia-based startup as its SVP of North America Fulfillment.

Shah brings over 25 years of operations and supply chain experience, most recently as Beyond Meat’s COO, and will be in charge of the company’s North American operations, including supply chain, distribution, network optimization, operational excellence, and micro-fulfillment center operations and launches.

Before Shah’s time at Beyond Meat he was the SVP of Global Energy at Tesla. He also spent time as an Executive Director at Dell and oversaw the expansion and operations of Amazon fulfillment centers as its VP of North American Customer Fulfillment.

Among Shah’s direct reports will be Quintus Carstens, the company’s recently appointed VP of North America Fulfillment, who shares a similar background as he also joined from Beyond Meat and spent time at Amazon as the executive in charge of its cross-dock operations in the Western US.

This deep Amazon experience will be especially crucial for Gopuff as it expands and has to fend off a host of new entrants into the 15-minutes delivery space, including Jokr, a US rival, and Gorillas, a European delivery unicorn that launched its first US operations in late May 2021.

Shah’s experience at Amazon will likely com into play here as he oversaw the launch of over 100 new fulfillment centers and implemented new robotics and automation tools. This experience could help the company as it scales and looks to implement new tech to distinguish itself, cut costs, and improve fulfillment times.

Gopuff has made it a goal to improve the tech side of its business and acquired rideOS in June 2021 to bring on new top tech talent and gain access to its proprietary delivery, routing, and logistics technology.

In late July, Gopuff announced that it secured $1B in new funding, valuing the company at $15 billion. In the company’s most recent press release, SVP of Global Operations Tim Collins said that as Gopuff continues to scale, the company has been making strategic investments in talent and technology to enhance its processes and operations and create a more seamless experience from inventory to delivery.
