Netflix Recruits First Podcast Leader From Apple

N’Jeri Eaton has revealed that she will join Netflix later this month as its first Head of Podcasts.

She will head up Netflix’s lineup of podcasts, which are primarily focused on its original series and movies, and report to fellow Apple alum, Netflix CMO Bozoma Saint John.

The audio production executive announced her move in a tweet, saying, “I'm thrilled to join @netflix as the Head of Podcasts. 16 years ago, I watched three DVDs from Netflix a day while working the late night lab shift at a university. My obsession for storytelling has taken me all kinds of places but this is truly a dream!”

Eaton is an experienced executive who had served as the former Head of Content for Apple Podcasts. Before that she was at NPR for four years, where she sourced new content, partnerships, and talent as Senior Manager of Programming Acquisitions. She has also worked as a Content Development & Initiative Manager for documentary film funder the Independent Television Service (ITVS) and held a number of producer roles at various organizations.

She joins a growing media team at Netflix that stretches outside of its traditional focus on streamed video content. Just last month, the company hired Allure Editor-in-Chief Michelle Lee to head up initiatives like its in-house magazine.

The two new hires will likely help Netflix further engage its users outside of its core video streaming product and could help cultivate fandoms around its original content. Touch points, like podcasts, are especially important as much of the company's TV series content is released all at once, rather than spread out over a period of weeks or months, which can leave users with long gaps between seasons.
