We’ve highlighted some of the standout benefits of working at Netflix.
Although Netflix, the subscription streaming platform that once disrupted traditional television, has much more competition today, it is still the largest streaming service to date, amounting to a total of 221.8 million global paid subscribers at the end of 2021.
Unsurprisingly, it is also one of the most competitive companies to receive a job offer from. In 2019, Netflix received more than 350,000 applications despite having fewer than 6,800 full-time employees.
Chairman and Co-CEO Reed Hastings built the culture of his company to be centered around freedom and responsibility. Netflix employees are paid above market rate, and similar to many big-tech companies, once an applicant receives an offer from Netflix, they are entitled to multiple benefits. Here, we’ve highlighted some of the standout benefits of working at Netflix.
Unlike traditional companies, Netflix employees do not have standard 9-to-5 workdays. They are free to choose their work hours as long as they complete the tasks at hand.
This, paired with unlimited paid time off for all full-time employees at the company, gives Netflix employees the opportunity to rest when needed, reflecting its core value of “working smarter, not harder.”
Full-time salaried employees that choose to have children, including through surrogacy or adoption, will be offered “unlimited” parental leave for up to one year, based on negotiations with their direct managers.
Salaried employees are offered a handful of medical plan options, but all cover 100% of preventative care with in-network providers. Employees are also able to choose basic dental, vision and other health plans, and receive an allowance of up to $15,000 to cover these premiums. This amount remains the same regardless of the medical needs of the employee and their dependents.
Like many of its competitors, Netflix matches its employees’ contributions to retirement savings plans, up to 4%. Netflix also gives its employees the flexibility to choose how much of their compensation they want to receive in salary versus stock options, and the risk they wish to take. Further, any contributions Netflix employees make to charities are matched by the company, up to $20,000.
Although there is no set limit for work-related expenses at Netflix, the company advises employees to act in its best interest when spending. Employees who are relocating from one city to another will be given three months in a corporate apartment as they look for a new home, and there is a dedicated talent mobility team that supports employees’ families.
