BlackRock Recruits Verizon CEO to Its Board

BlackRock has nominated Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg to join its Board of Directors to replace long-time board member Mathis Cabiallavetta, who will not stand for re-election.

BlackRock has nominated Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg to join its Board of Directors to replace long-time board member Mathis Cabiallavetta, who will not stand for re-election. If elected, Vestberg will join the Board as an independent director after the investment firm’s annual meeting on May 26, 2021.

He will bring valuable technology and sustainability insights to BlackRock’s board as the firm looks to expand its presence in key European markets. His guidance will also help the company “use technology to continue transforming our business, and further embed sustainability into our investment processes and corporate practices,” Chairman and CEO Laurence D. Fink said in the company's announcement.

Vestberg has served as the CEO of Verizon since 2018 and as Chairman since March 2019. Prior to these roles, heserved as the US telecom’s Chief Technology Officer and President of Global Networks from 2017 to 2018. Before joining Verizon in 2017, Vestberg served as President and CEO of Swedish telecoms equiment maker Ericsson.

He is also a board member of the UN Foundation as well as the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative and serves as Chairman of the World Economic Forum EDISON Alliance.
