We wanted to create a snapshot of the Australian economy. So, we decided to do some research and find the top 30 Australian companies by revenue.
Unsurprisingly, mining-related companies dominate the list, with five positions in the top 30 taken up by metal ore mining enterprises. The Big Four banks are all in the top 10 and supermarket giants Woolworths and Coles Group are in the top five.
In a particularly Australian quirk, superannuation (pension) funds are also well-represented in the top 30.

So, that’s the top 30 companies in Australia by revenue, and the list poses some big questions, especially as we move into the post-COVID-19 world.
- How long can Australia continue to rely on mining exports to create wealth?
- Will a fraught political relationship with China mean Australia has to quickly pivot to new markets?
- Will retirement plans be the real victims of the post-COVID-crash as superannuation funds feel the pressure of a tumultuous global stock market?
