Sarah Nelson is an accomplished leader in the food access and nonprofit sectors, currently serving as the Executive Director of 18 Reasons since May 2013, an organization focused on equipping communities with skills to make healthy food choices. Prior to this role, Sarah Nelson was the Executive Director of Three Squares, where initiatives were launched to enhance healthy food access for Bay Area households. Previous experience includes serving as Special Projects Coordinator at the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association and Executive Director of Fresh Approach, where Sarah Nelson developed nonprofit programs and oversaw operations. Earlier in the career, Sarah Nelson worked with Butterfield & Robinson as both a Trip Manager and Guide, facilitating luxury travel experiences in Europe, and gained experience as Associate Director at The Pirates Alley Faulkner Society. An alumnus of Sarah Lawrence College, Sarah Nelson holds a BA in Creative Writing.

18 Reasons is a nonprofit that increases food security through the power of home cooking. Through hands-on cooking classes, we empower our community with the confidence and creativity needed to buy, cook, and eat good food every day. At our 18th Street Kitchen in San Francisco, paid classes reach curious home cooks with the means to pay for instruction. Here we host hands-on cooking classes, baking workshops, tasting seminars and food-focused events. We also offer four, multi-week cooking and nutrition education programs for youth, families, adults, and birthing parents: Cooking Matters, Planned & Prepped, Food As Medicine (FAM) and Nourishing Pregnancy. Each year, we teach thousands of families to buy, cook, and eat good food on a limited budget.
