Joan Stewart has a diverse work experience in various library and customer support roles. Joan started their career as a Technical Assistant at Rapid City Public Library from 2001 to 2003, where they processed media and served on a committee for library fine policies. Joan then worked as an Acquisitions Assistant at the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution from 2007 to 2008, where they performed reference work and assisted with collection development. Joan also worked as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Maryland, College Park from 2008 to 2009, assisting with acquiring and updating electronic resources. Joan later worked as a Serials Librarian at Dumbarton Oaks Research Library from 2009 to 2010, where they created and updated records for a multi-language collection. Joan then joined Rapid City Public Library again in 2010 as a Library Associate, providing reference services and troubleshooting computer problems. In 2011, they transitioned to working in customer support roles at 37signals and Basecamp. Overall, Joan has developed strong library and customer support skills throughout their career.
Joan Stewart pursued their education in a systematic manner, completing their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Interdisciplinary Science with a focus on Computer Science and Humanities from South Dakota Mines, a six-year program which they attended from 2000 to 2006. Building upon their undergraduate knowledge, they went on to obtain a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Library Science from the University of Maryland between 2007 and 2009. Through these educational experiences, Joan Stewart acquired a strong foundation in Computer Science, Humanities, and Library Science.
