Vice President Of Product Management - Plant Technology at 8minute Solar Energy

Luke Hansen has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Luke began their career in 2010 as a Solar PV Designer at Green Energy Options before moving to Booz Allen Hamilton as a Senior Consultant, consulting for the U.S. government. From 2010 to 2012, they also worked as an Electrical Engineer at Engineers Without Borders USA.

In 2012, Luke joined General Electric (GE) Energy Storage, where they served as a Battery Management Systems Engineer for three years before becoming a Senior Battery System Engineer from 2015 to 2017.

Following their time at GE, Luke joined Avantus in 2017, initially as the Director of Storage Engineering. During this role, they led battery qualification and equipment selection and partnered with customers to customize battery storage features in clean energy power plants. Luke also developed the first widely adopted battery cell accelerated life testing standard for grid applications in partnership with DNV.

Luke then advanced to Vice President of Storage Engineering at Avantus in 2021, overseeing a team responsible for energy market revenue analysis and value optimization of solar and energy storage power plants in California and Texas. In this role, they successfully contracted approximately $5B of clean energy power plants through partnerships with customers.

Most recently, Luke assumed the position of Vice President of Product Management - Plant Technology at Avantus in June 2022. In this role, they are responsible for product managing solar PV, energy storage, and clean hydrogen commercial offerings, as well as creating new products to address the market for green hydrogen and clean heat at competitive costs.

Prior to their career in the private sector, Luke served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 2000 to 2012.

Luke Hansen earned a Master's Degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the University of Maryland from 2010 to 2011 and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and International Affairs from the University of New Hampshire from 2000 to 2005. In addition, they obtained certifications in Introduction to Computational Thinking and Data Science as well as Introduction to Computer Science and Programming Using Python from edX, specifically from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 2016.
