A Home Within
Lisa Otis DeGroot is a dedicated mental health professional currently serving as a Clinical Supervisor at Motivo Health since February 2023, where the emphasis is on nurturing trauma-informed, social justice-oriented therapists. Since March 2021, Lisa has also been a Consultation Clinician at A Home Within, providing expert guidance to licensed mental health clinicians. Additionally, since September 2013, Lisa has contributed as a TPC Consultation Therapist with CASA of Contra Costa County, offering support and advice to therapists working with clients. With extensive experience in various therapeutic settings, including serving as a Case Coordinator and Team Leader, Lisa has a strong foundation in advocating for at-risk youth, providing clinical consultation, and mentoring fellow professionals. Lisa holds a Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from San Francisco State University and a BA in Psychology and Legal Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

One Foster Youth. One Therapist. For As Long As It Takes. Our vision is that all children who experience foster care are provided this essential support, ensuring that as they transition from foster care, regardless of which stage of life they are in, they have the inner tools they need to thrive. By matching youth with experienced therapists, we address the trauma and disruption inherent to foster care, help youth manage stress and anxiety, and develop the inner tools they need to become healthy adults. With a mission to create and support lasting, caring relationships for children and youth in foster care, A Home Within identifies, recruits, trains, and supports a network of licensed therapists who each provide free, weekly, one-to-one therapy to a single foster youth "for as long as it takes." For foster youth who often watch people move in and out of their lives, our model creates an anchor of support.
