Stephen M. Shafer

Stephen Shafer currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer and President and Chief Operating Officer of A. O. Smith Corporation since March 2024. Prior to this, Stephen held various leadership roles at 3M from May 2014 to March 2024, including President of the Automotive and Aerospace Solutions Division and Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, with responsibilities spanning strategy, business development, marketing, and sales globally. Previous experiences also include roles as President and Managing Director in the Greater China Area and Senior Vice President of Business Transformation at 3M, as well as positions at McKinsey & Company and Ford Motor Company, where responsibilities ranged from strategic marketing to financial analysis. Stephen's career began at NASA as an Industrial Engineer. Stephen holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University.
