Brien Trimmer

SMASS III S&H Manager at APT Research at A-P-T Research

Brien Trimmer has over 40 years of work experience. Brien began their career in 1980 as a Non Commissioned Officer - Maintenance Supervisor in the United States Air Force, where they supervised 25 technicians in maintaining gas turbine powered generators and electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic support equipment for F-4 / F16 Fighter Aircraft. Brien also served as the Shop Safety Manager for AFOSH safety program and Quality Assurance Inspector.

In 1989, Brien began working at Lockheed Martin as a NASA Space Shuttle System Technician (A-Tech). In this role, they maintained the operational status of launch pads 39A and 39B liquid oxygen / hydrogen storage and loading facilities in support of Space Shuttle processing and launch operations. Brien also prepared Space Shuttle systems for cryogenic fuel loading and recovery, and was part of the Re-Entry Team which secured the liquid hydrogen system after launches or scrubs to ensure the safe access of other workers returning back to the launch pads.

In 1992, Brien became the President / CEO / Owner / Operator of Lone Star Indian Motorcycle – Spaceport Video Center, managing 20 technicians and sales associates. Brien managed a $1.6 million annual budget with over $2 million in inventory between both operations.

In 2002, Brien joined ADAPCO, Inc. as the Corporate Director of Safety and Compliance, where they were responsible for creating and implementing all corporate safety policies and programs for over 200 employees within all areas of ADAPCO, Inc.’s national operations to include Chemical, Pesticide and Equipment Manufacturing, Sales and Distribution, Vector Control Services - Ground and Aerial-Based Pesticide Application Services, Aviation (A&P) Maintenance Facilities, and National Flight Line Operations at numerous FAA Regulated Airfields.

In 2008, Brien started working at Millennium Engineering and Integration (MEI) as a NASA Safety Specialist / Construction Safety Project Manager. In this role, they managed and reviewed construction contractor’s occupational safety and health plans and operations to ensure compliance with applicable State, Federal and NASA safety, health and environmental regulations and standards. Brien also provided contractor support to the Institutional Safety Directorate for multiple sites located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) covering construction, environmental, facility and laboratory safety, and served as the NASA Safety Representative for construction projects pre-work and status meetings with key government and contractor personnel.

In 2012, Brien returned to A-P-T Research, Inc. as a NASA Safety Specialist / Construction Safety Project Manager.

In 2013, Brien began working at Millennium Engineering and Integration as a Launch Pad Safety Supervisor. In this role, they supervised the performance of Eastern Range launch contractor hazardous and safety critical operations, conducted operational reviews of launch contractor procedures, identified and analyzed applicable safety standards and precautions, trained and mentored other safety professionals, and prepared safety documentation as directed to facilitate the operational implementation of System Safety programs of launch systems and weapon programs at launch ranges.

In 2019, Brien joined APT (A-P-T Research, Inc.) as the SMASS III S&H Manager. In this role, they supervised the control and maintenance of the SMASS III S&H program documentation and submitted it to NASA for review upon request (within HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations). Brien also ensured the S&H Program was evaluated annually and a formal report was developed and distributed per contract requirements. Additionally, they provided safety and occupational health support for the SA-F1 SMA Safety Branch of Exploration Ground Systems (EGS), and provided safety surveillance of Flight Hardware/Ground Support Equipment processing operations to assure contractor compliance with safety requirements.

Brien Trimmer attended Hawaii Pacific University from 1984 to 1991. Brien also attended Community College of the Air Force from 1980 to 1990 and Victor Valley College from 1987 to 1989. In addition, they obtained an Advanced Safety Certification from the National Safety Council in July 2004, a Principles of Occupational Safety & Health Certification from the National Safety Council in June 2004, and an Incident Commander/OSHA Level V Certification from United Agri Products- Verdicon, Inc. in July 2005.
