Kate Gilliam has a diverse work experience in the healthcare field. Kate began their career in 2012 as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Allouez Parkside Village. From 2013 to 2015, they worked as a CNA at Bellin Health. In 2014, they interned at Brown County Medical Examiner. In 2015, they served as a Patient Service Representative at Aurora Health Care.

In 2016, Kate worked as a Registered Nurse at Carle Foundation Hospital for six months before joining Southern Illinois Healthcare as a Registered Nurse in the NICU/Pediatrics department. Kate worked there until February 2018. From March to September 2018, they worked as a Registered Nurse at Children's Minnesota.

In 2019, Kate joined Fairview Health Services as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse, a role they continue to hold. In 2021, they became a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Hudson Hospital & Clinic. Currently, they are also a Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor at the American Academy of Pediatrics, a position they started in 2023.

From 2013 to 2015, Kate attended Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and acquired an Associate's degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse. Then, they returned to Concordia University-Wisconsin from 2016 to 2018, where they completed their Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) degree.

In addition to their education, Kate Gilliam also obtained various certifications. Kate became a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois in March 2016. In December 2011, they obtained a Certified Nursing Assistant designation from the State of Wisconsin. Kate acquired their Registered Nurse certification in the State of Minnesota in February 2018 and received the Registered Nurse certification from the State of Wisconsin in July 2021. Furthermore, Kate obtained the EssentiALZ Dementia Advanced Care Training certification from the Alzheimer's Association® in May 2013.
