LEAD AVIONICS ENGINEER

ABL’s Avionics Engineers are critical to mission success, bridging the gap between hardware responsible for producing thousands of pounds of thrust and software guiding the payload safely to the correct orbit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop component, systems, and test requirements in conjunction with engineers, stakeholders, and government agencies.
  • Develop, analyze, and review data to validate and verify the avionics system meets specifications and design requirements
  • Perform root cause and corrective action investigation for issues encountered in manufacturing, integration, and operations.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and flight sciences teams to maintain design alignment on requirements and integration
  • Facilitate avionics hardware development from conception to flight-ready systems.
  • Lead FMEA processes for components and systems.
  • Champion safety, reliability, and performance margins for avionics components and systems while balancing timeline goals and regulations.
  • Develop test plans for component validation, system qualification and acceptance
  • Gather, define, and document requirements to meet existing and anticipated needs for vehicle avionics.
  • Work with government agencies to ensure compliance to all safety requirements.
  • Mentor junior members of the avionics systems team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science (CS), Computer Engineering (CE), ), or similar from an accredited university
  • 5+ years experience in the development of aircraft, missile, spacecraft or similar electronic/avionic systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior work designing, developing, and testing avionics hardware on launch vehicles or space systems
  • Experience designing component and test requirements
  • Experience qualifying avionics systems for spaceflight
  • Experience developing or architecting systems applicable to government regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use a computer to complete assignments
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office environment
  • This role requires occasional travel to our launch and test sites
