Allan John Were has a range of work experience in various roles. Allan John currently works at Management Sciences for Health as the Vector-borne Diseases Lead, where they provide technical expertise in managing diseases spread by vectors. Prior to this, they worked at Abt Associates Inc. in multiple roles, including as Principal Associate / Director of Vector Control and Principal Associate / Director of Operations. In these positions, they led the planning and implementation of vector control and spray campaigns in several countries in Africa. Before that, they served as the Deputy Chief of Party for the Uganda IRS Project. Additionally, Allan has experience working as a Country Manager in Uganda for Academy for Educational Development, where they focused on developing a commercial market for insecticide treated nets. Allan John also worked at Uganda Post Limited as the General Manager of Marketing & Sales, overseeing sales, marketing, and customer service activities. Early in their career, Allan worked at Unilever Uganda Limited and Unilever Kenya Limited, where they held various roles including Brand Manager, Customer Service Representative, and Management Trainee.

Allan John Were attended Makerere University from 1992 to 1995, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Allan John then pursued further education at Uganda Christian University from 2007 to 2009, completing a Masters in Public Health Leadership. Prior to their university education, Allan attended Kings College Budo from 1986 to 1992. Allan John also attended Kitante Primary School, although the specific years are not provided. In 2023, Allan obtained a certification from Marquis Who's Who.
