Natalie Castellana

CEO at Abterra Biosciences

Natalie Castellana is currently the CEO at Abterra Biosciences. Prior to that, they were a graduate student at UC San Diego from January 2006 to May 2012. While at UC San Diego, they developed algorithms and software for interrogating the proteome through mass spectrometry. This work led to the discovery of thousands of novel genes in maize, zebrafish, grape, and human. Natalie also developed the GenoMS algorithm for full-length sequencing of monoclonal antibodies. For one quarter, they led twice weekly discussion sections, held weekly office hours, and performed most of the grading for an introductory computer science class (CSE 100) at UCSD.

Natalie Castellana earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. Natalie then went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from UC San Diego.
